Ceramicist Carolinda Tolstoy is doubly celebrated this month with the publication of an eponymous book (£19.99 - Art Books International) and an exhibition Spectrum Carolinda at the Luke & A gallery. Her pottery is a remarkable blend of eastern traditions and modern western tequniques. Iznik ceramics and Safavid miniatures are two particular areas of Middle Eastern artistic traditions that Carolinda draws upon for her guilded and lustre-glazed hand-thrown pieces. Her work is deservedly popular and there is a permanent display of them at the London University School of Oriental & African Studies.
