A discreet exhibition is giving art lovers the chance to pick up pieces by some of Britain's best-connected artists for a song.

Works by Countess Carolinda Tolstoy, priced at only £2,000, and a delicate miniature by Maggi Hambling - available for just £1,100 - are among offerings from a line-up of artists that includes society caricaturist Sue Macartney-Snape, Katherine Dowson, the daughter of former Royal Academy president Sir Philip Dowson, writer William Dalrymple's painter wife Olivia Fraser, and William Roper-Curzon - one of Lord Teynham's ten talented children.

For once the credit crunch is not behind the knockdown prices - instead the pieces have been donated for the exhibition at the Royal Over-Seas League in St James's in aid of the Kathmandu Arts Centre.
